The smallest
production camera in the world has been made in Germany since 1945,
the MINIOX. The MINOX 8x11 format and the tiny camera have set the
standard for sub miniature photography amongst professionals and
amateurs. The new MINOX TLX consists of 275 hand assembled parts
in a high value metal alloy casing with an especially robust surface
- anodized titanium - a masterpiece of precision engineering and
optoelectronics. The 35 mm model series from MINOX has also applied
the principle of miniaturization to the cornact picture format.
The photoelectronic innovations found in the MINOX nowadays have
now become a symbol for quality workmanship - "made in Germany".

Walter Zapp
(born In 1905 in Riga, Latvia) already had the idea for his later
subminiature camera when he was an apprentice from 1922-24 in Reval,
now Tallinn (Estonia). He also developed the prototype here. The
entirely new camera first went into production with the VEF company
in Riga and was then produced by MINOX GmbH in Wetzlar after 1945.
MINOX cameras from Heuchelheim near Giessen can be found all over
the world since 1948. The Republic of Estonia has honoured Walter
Zapp's invention by issuing a special postage stamp for Europe which
reminds us of the patent registration of the original MINOX in Estonia.
