HOT SHOE ADAPTER

D. Scott Young

The Minox Hot Shoe Adapter.

Milled from metal, the Minox Hot Shoe Adapter is a black accessory shoe with a “hot” electrical contact that is press fitted onto the ends of Minox 8x11 metal bodied cameras with a flash contact to enable the use of standard electronic flash units. Although the adapter can be physically mounted on a Model IIIs camera, the viewfinder will obscured in use; the adapter is intended for use with the Model B and later cameras. A rectangular cutout in the adapter frame allows for the meter window on these cameras – the adapter can be left in place while using the camera for normal, non-flash photography.

Users are advised to remember that the mounting is a press fit: although secure enough for reliable electrical contact, mounting large, or heavy flash units requires some care in remembering to hold both the camera and the flash when using it. Otherwise, it is possible to drop the flash unit if holding only the camera, or worse, drop the camera if holding the assembly by the flash unit only. The Hot Shoe Adapter gives owners of Model B and later classic 8 x 11 cameras (with the exception of the EC/ECX models) added flexibility in being able to use their choice of manual or fully automatic flash units.
