Dear MHS Members, Thorsten Kortemeier, president of Minox GmbH and one of the contest judges, was as excited as the rest of us at the extraordinary quality and quantity of the entries in the contest. He and I were also struck by the wide range of subjects photographed by the members. Thorsten decided that he and I should each make a President's Award independent of any other judging that went on, and that Minox would donate two of the 8x11 film Leica M3 Miniatures as those prizes. I'm am therefore pleased to announce the The 2004 winners are: Joel Moscowitz
for "A set of black and white photos exhibiting mastery of every
aspect of the Minox genre, from available light candids to an ultrasharp
close-up still life." Yasushi's pictures are extraordinary examples of the mainstream of
Minox photography of friends, family, and daily life. Joel's, on the
other hand, are abstract, hard, a little edgy, and show the range of
the Minox 8x11 cameras under adverse conditions, where some of us would
have a hard time getting an acceptable photo even with a 35mm outfit.
